Horse Grooming Tips You May Not Have Heard Of

Horse grooming is one of the first things you learn when you start to ride so you probably think you`re an expert. You know how to do all the basics, how to treat minor injuries like scrapes or cuts, and your knowledgeable about what can be used on your horse and what can`t. But even you, my friend, may be missing out on some great grooming tips that you will never have heard of.

None of us know everything and learning can be fun, so let`s go over what some of these grooming tips may be.

Let The White Shine

If you have a white horse you know that it`s incredibly frustrating to bring them into the stable and have them be caked in mud from head to toe. No matter how much you scrub and clean they`re still going to be a slight shade of brown or tan, but there are in fact super easy ways to make your white horse brilliantly white.

Use baby powder or baking soda. Mix it with a little bit of water and gently rub it into their coat and then hose off. They`ll be brilliantly white in no time.

Tails

Tails can be a hassle to clean up not just because of all the gunk that gets on them, but also because of tangles. Tangles are no fun to deal with, for you or for your horse, but did you know that using Pledge can actually work wonders? The wood cleaner works as an amazing detangler, is totally safe and unlike other detangling products, it`s not silicon based so it actually repels the dirt rather than attracting it again. It`s pretty much a miracle, even if you are putting something on your horse that you may use on your coffee table.

Vinegar

No, vinegar isn`t the nicest smell in the world, but if you rub your horse down with a little bit mixed with water after a bath it will not only repel dirt but also repel flies. And we know how all horses like to have a good roll in the mud after a bath.

Rubbing

Whenever horses have an itch, usually caused by fungi, skin irritation or dry skin, they will start to rub to try and scratch it and give themselves relief. Using Listerine, the mouthwash, on that little bit of skin that`s having the problem will sooth the itch and will stop your horse from rubbing that area, letting it heal.

These tips are all very unusual and you may never have heard of them, but they truly work wonders when it comes to grooming and keeping your horse happy, clean and healthy.
